Why this exists

Most people needing a solicitor have never needed one before. They do not know what kind they need, what it should cost, or how to tell a good firm from a bad one. So they search, and what they find is either an advertisement or an article written for a different country.

That is a solvable problem, and solving it is the whole of what this site is for.

Who we are

ineedalawyerto.com/ is a trading name of Rooney Family Law Limited, a firm of solicitors regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. Some enquiries we deal with ourselves. Where the work sits outside what we do, we introduce you to a firm on our panel and that firm may pay us a share of its fee.

We say that on every page rather than in a footnote, because a site that takes money for introductions and does not mention it is not being straight with you.

What we are trying to do differently

• Write for Scotland. Not an English page with the place names changed.
• Say what things cost. Including the question almost nobody tells you to ask, which is whether the firm’s fee comes out of your compensation or only from the other side.
• Publish what firms do not. Registration numbers, response times measured from both ends, and published fees with the gaps shown as gaps.
• Tell you when you do not need us. There are situations where a solicitor is not required, and we would rather say so than take the enquiry.
• Never rank firms. We are paid by some of the firms we list. A merit ranking published by us would be worthless and we will not pretend otherwise.

What we are not

We are not a comparison site, a review site or a claims company. We do not cold call, we do not buy contact details and we do not sell them. Our panel is not the whole Scottish profession, and the Law Society publishes a free directory of every solicitor in the country if you would rather start there.
