There is no charge to you at any point, and no obligation at the end of it. Here is the whole process, including the part about money, which most sites leave until you have already handed over your details.
One — tell us what you need
Finish the sentence at the top of any page. A short series of choices establishes what has happened and where in Scotland you are. There is no long form, nothing to download, and no telephone number to ring.
We ask you to choose from a list rather than typing at first. That is deliberate. It means we know what kind of matter we are dealing with before you tell us anything about it, which is better for you and better for us.
Two — we match it to a member firm
We pass your details to one of our member firms that handles that kind of work. We do not publish a list of our member firms and we do not rank them, but every Scottish solicitor appears on the Law Society of Scotland public roll, which you can search yourself.
If it is work we do ourselves, we say so plainly. We do not disguise ourselves as one option among many.
Three — the firm gets in touch
Your details go to one member firm, never to several, and nothing is sent until you confirm. That firm undertakes to attempt contact within 24 hours during office hours, and we ask you separately afterwards whether they actually did, because a firm reporting on its own punctuality is worth very little.
How we are paid, in plain terms
The service is free to you. Where we introduce you to another firm on our panel, that firm may pay us a share of the fee it earns. Three things about that arrangement.
- The payment comes from the firm, not from you. It does not increase what you pay and it does not reduce any compensation you receive.
- The amount does not change depending on which panel firm receives your enquiry, so we have no financial reason to send it to one firm rather than another. We tell you the firm’s name once it has confirmed that it can take your case on.
- The firm will tell you about the arrangement again when it takes you on, and confirm it in its terms of business. If you want to know the amount, ask, and you will be told.
What sending an enquiry does not do
Sending us an enquiry does not instruct us to act as your solicitor in the underlying matter. We will not protect a time limit, raise an action or take any other legal step for you unless we confirm separately and in writing that we have accepted your instructions.
What we will not do
We will not telephone you out of the blue. We will not pass your details to anyone other than the firm you have chosen. We will not tell you that you have a good case, because nobody can know that from a web form, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing at your expense.
We also do not rank solicitors or publish opinions about which firm is better than another. Our panel is not the whole Scottish profession, and you remain free to instruct any solicitor in Scotland.
