ineedalawyerto.com/ is a trading name of Rooney Family Law Limited, a firm of solicitors regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. We are a law firm. We are not a claims management company, a comparison site or a marketing business.

What we do

Some enquiries that come through this site we deal with ourselves. Where the work sits outside what we do, or where another firm is better placed, we introduce you to a firm on our panel.

Our panel is a group of Scottish firms with which we have a commercial arrangement. It is not a list of every solicitor in Scotland, it is not a ranking, and it does not represent a judgment that these firms are better than others. You are free to instruct any solicitor you wish, and the Law Society of Scotland publishes a free directory of every solicitor in the country.

How we are paid

The service is free to you. Where we introduce you to another firm, that firm may pay us a share of the fee it earns on your matter.

The payment is made by the firm, not by you. It does not increase what you pay and it does not reduce any compensation you receive. The basis on which it is calculated is the same across our panel, so the amount we receive does not depend on which firm receives your enquiry.

The firm you are introduced to will disclose the arrangement again when it takes you on. If you want to know the amount, ask us or ask them, and you will be told.

When we are, and are not, acting for you

Sending an enquiry through this site does not instruct Rooney Family Law Limited to act as your solicitor in the underlying matter. We will not protect a time limit, raise proceedings or take any other legal step unless we confirm in writing that we have accepted instructions.

Where we do accept instructions, whether for a limited purpose or for the whole matter, you will receive written terms of business setting out what we will do and what it will cost.

What we do not do

We do not rank firms by merit and we do not say that one solicitor is better than another. We are not a review site. Payment plays no part in the legal information published on this site and does not cause us to present one legal route as preferable to another.

We do not cold call. We do not buy contact details and we do not sell them. Your information goes to one member firm and to nobody else.

Our regulator is the Law Society of Scotland, Atria One, 144 Morrison Street, Edinburgh, EH3 8EX. We carry compulsory professional indemnity insurance through the Master Policy arranged by the Law Society of Scotland, and details of the cover are available on request.
